where the heck is heston?

I know I haven’t updated my blog in a long time. I’ve been busy!

What have I been doing? Here’s a basic run-down.

I finished working at Summer at St. George’s on August 14th. I then had family in town and was busy shuttling people around. Sometime around then I decided to install windows 7 on my desktop and laptop. More to come from that story later!

On Sept 3rd, I flew out to Ontario to visit friends at the University of Guelph. I subsequently went to London, Ontario and stayed with friends who go to western there.

I returned to Vancouver on the 22nd and am now just bumming around and doing tons of maintenance my servers and network.

Why am I not in school? Well I’m taking the year off to work for the Olympics. I’ll tell you more in the next post!!

bike riding!

Well I haven’t posted for a while. Its been a busy summer! I’ve been working a lot of hours at Summer at St. George’s and by the time I get home, I have little-to-no energy to really do anything else but relax. Kids are stressful!

After about 3 months, my friends are STILL biking across Canada. They have 2 more provinces to go! Stay up-to-date for their finish via Twitter or their website.

Congratulations to Cornel Dobrin who successfully set a new Guinness World Record for biking across Canada. He cut the previous record by 3 days, completing the journey in a speed 24 days from Vancouver to St. John’s Newfoundland. Amazing! Canada.com

Lastly, if you follow my twitter or have me on facebook; you may have noticed that I watched entourage….well…I still don’t really know, but I’m guessing about 5 times over and over again. I had a bike accident in the Bike park at Whistler on July 19th,  2009. I awoke in Vancouver about 6 hours later with a Grade II Concussion and 3-5 stitches on my upper lip. Thankfully I didn’t break any bones; I also thank my helmet for saving my face/mouth/head from further damage! It took me approximately 5 days to fully recover and regain my memory back. Super bizarre! Feel free to take a look at some photos from the accident.

WEAR YOUR HELMET WHEN YOU RIDE! NO EXCEPTIONS!

vista sp2 group policy extensions

Its been a few weeks since Vista SP2 was released to to MSDN and MS Technet subscribers. The original release lacked the group policy extensions for windows domain environments and sent me and many others off on a frustration spiral for a few hours until we could figure that out.

So, nearly four weeks later with my Lenovo T400 running Vista x64 SP2, I was finally able to apply the full group policy extensions and now my drive maps are fully functional.

In case you have Windows Update disabled, simply go here to, select the appropriate operating system and download the latest Group Policy extensions for your computer. Administrators with WSUS, don’t forget to approve and force the update!

Thank you Microsoft, for taking your time. Perhaps you’ll release another version of the Sp2 disc which includes this patch so I don’t have to slipstream it myself.
